Brian Schwager

Founder of the Wellness Movement Center, Director of Client Programs and Services
Wellness Movement Specialist™ / Performance Enhancement Trainer

As a Wellness Movement Specialist and Performance Enhancement Trainer, Brian treats a broad cross-section of individuals with challenging orthopedic and chronic pain conditions. He specializes in helping people that haven’t had success with traditional and alternative therapies. Currently, more than 75% of clients of Wellness Movement Center represent this status.

Throughout his 35 year career in the fitness, health and wellness fields, he has worked alongside and coordinated client care with a variety of professionals, ranging from physical therapists, to chiropractors, to alternative therapists such as acupuncturists.

From 1992 to 2002 Brian gained valuable knowledge and experience through his work at Competitive Edge Sports Medicine and the Petitt Olympic Ice Center, here he worked in the physical therapy department along with their personal training service.

He treated patients of all ages having a wide spectrum of orthopedic injuries. During this time period Brian also consulted and trained a variety of professional athletes that included a World Class Kick Boxer, Ballroom Dancers, a Power Lifter and an Iron-man Triathlete.

Brian also subcontracted his ‘then’ Post Exercise Rehab Services at a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Center overseen by a medical doctor. Moreover, Brian owned and operated 3 different personal training businesses between 1989 to 2003.

From 2003 to 2010 Brian worked for Dr. Gary Walicki, a Chiropractor and Functional Neurologist, where he served as the Director of Corrective Exercise. He worked with diverse populations. Under the guidance of Dr. Walicki, Brian received specialized training on how to perform advanced patient assessments and tests.

Recognizing the emerging need for active individuals to have more integrative care to address chronic pain and movement limitation issues and with Dr. Walicki’s encouragement, Brian formed Wellness Movement Center in Asheville, North Carolina.

Wellness Movement Center brings a multidisciplinary approach to wellness movement treatments and performance enhancement training. A wide range of strength, speed, agility and power training methods that are supported by mind / body concepts such as meditation, yoga, Feldenkrais, and the Alexander methods of mindful movement exercises are emphasized.

Before starting his career, Brian studied Exercise Science at the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee. He has never stopped learning.

His clinical expertise and knowledge of important healthcare trends is enhanced by attending professional development certification courses and workshops with a specific focus on correcting posture, enhancing the body’s stabilization system and improving mobility in exercise therapy for various injuries.

He is currently studying through the CHEK Institute and is currently a C.H.E.K. Practitioner Level 1. C.H.E.K. stands for Corrective Holistic Exercise Kinesiology. With this in-depth knowledge Brian conducts comprehensive assessments developed exclusively for Wellness Movement Center clients that identify the cause(s) of the problem rather than just treating the symptoms.

Brian has trained in various martial arts concepts and styles including Tae Kwon Do (1st degree Black) Kick Boxing, Philippine Stick & Knife Fighting (Escrima / Doce Pares), Western Boxing and Hand-to-Hand Combat.
