Athletic Movement Screen™

Step 1: Comprehensive Wellness & Movement Lifestyle Consultation™. The client will fill out WMC’s Wellness & Movement Lifestyle Questionnaire (WMLQ), Health History form. The WMLQ is rated using WMC’s unique rating to determine the client’s total score and whether or not they have other challenges that may effect their performance. Combining this score with the information on the individuals Health History form he will determine whether the person is moving towards or away from enhanced wellness and movement. Once completed the client will receive a preliminary plan to help lower their WMLQ score.

Step 2: Comprehensive Physical Assessment – Athletic Movement Screen™. This includes an assessment of the client’s posture, static and dynamic core function and Functional Movement Screen™ (FMS), applied muscle testing , FMS screening tests and initial report of findings and recommendations.

The FMS is a ranking and grading system that documents movement patterns that are key to normal function. By screening these patterns, the FMS readily identifies functional limitations and asymmetries. These are issues that can reduce the effects of functional training and physical conditioning and distort body awareness.

The FMS generates the Functional Movement Screen Score, which is used to target problems and track progress. This scoring system is directly linked to the most beneficial corrective exercises to restore mechanically sound movement patterns.

A perfect score is 21 and a passing score to resume fitness activities is a 14. Depending on the nature of the athletic or recreational activity of the client they will need to have a passing score that equates to the physical demands of their athletic or recreational activity. (2.5 hours)

Step 3: Phase 1A & B Sub-Base Conditioning “Restoration”
When this step is completed the client will go through a re-assessment to check both their general progress and to recheck their FMS score

Step 4: Phase 2A & B Base Conditioning Training for Strength, Power, Functional and if needed Agility and Speed

Functional Movement Re-screen – 1.5 hour (including screening tests)

Step 5: Phase 3 Specificity Training “Sports Specific Training”

All Inclusive Program Includes:

  • Private 60-minute sessions (each session will include videotaped exercises for the client to follow at home)
  • Consulting with your Coach, Athletic Trainer, Chiropractor, Medical Doctor, Massage or Physical Therapist
  • Weekly-personalized videos and exercise systems
  • On going support via email, phone and Skype

In the event the client experiences any pain during the Athletic Movement Screen, the client will be required to go through the Athletic Movement Assessment to determine the cause of the pain. In addition the client will be referred to either their medical doctor or the client will be referred to a holistic healthcare practitioner in WMC network.

Brian will then carefully go over the findings and clarify what the next steps are

The SFMA is the movement based diagnostic system, designed to clinically assess 7 fundamental movement patterns in those with known musculoskeletal pain. The assessment provides an efficient method to systematically find the cause of symptoms, not just the source.

This systematic process allows corrective exercise and rehab professional to clearly match their intervention to the main problem of the patient. This model efficiently integrates the concepts of altered motor control, the neurodevelopmental perspective, and regional interdependence into musculoskeletal practice.
